Iulia Simtion

Iulia was first introduced to pottery as a teenager studying in the United States, where she was taught handbuilding techniques. Years later, after a career in law in her native Romania, moving to Aotearoa and retraining as a teacher at the University of Auckland, Iulia rediscovered pottery and fell completely in love with the craft. Iulia has found clay to be a very generous, creative outlet and a constant source of positive thinking.

As a teacher, Iulia likes to create a calm, supportive environment for people to learn at their own pace. Iulia’s ceramic work is inspired by the kind of objects she would find in her grandfather’s cellar in rural Romania, as well as the clean lines associated with contemporary design.
